In this course you'll learn how to make an "analogue" two-colour riso print, without using any computers. You'll understand how to make your image in layers and see how the machine works. You don't need to know "how" to draw: riso is a great technique to translate photos, collages, paper cuts, ink washes, abstract mark-making, handwriting and type; it picks up all the textures and tonal ranges, and turns them into vibrantly coloured prints with a fun retro feel! DETAILS: the course will take between 3 and 3 1/2 hours the price is €320 excl VAT per group the course is for adults (age 16+) no more than 4 participants all necessary materials are provided, as well as refreshments participants will each leave with 15 copies of a 2-colour A3 riso print, using any of our 8 riso colours there's no theme for the course: you're free to create whatever you fancy, and we advise you to come without clearly defined objectives. Tout l’atelier peut se faire assis (il se fait habituellement debout autour d’une grande table mais ce n’est pas obligatoire). The colours are translucent so you can mix them by layering them at different intensities. To create an image for riso, you have to create a separate greyscale image for each colour layer. As in the example, a dark grey or black area will result in an area of intense colour in the print, and a light grey area will become an area of paler colour. Take this into account when you make your image: avoid overlapping layers of thin lines or text, and know that tiny details in several colours won’t perfectly align.When you’re ready to send us your files, flatten all the layers and send each colour separation as a greyscale&nbsp;PDF, 300dpi, with the ink colour and project referenced in each file name. When you send us your files, don’t forget to: Leave a 1cm margin around your image - riso can’t print to the edge of the paper Avoid big areas covered in flat colour at more than 80% opacity (it creates pools of ink in the image that can’t dry evenly) If your project has text in it, use InDesign or Illustrator (or any software using vectors rather than pixels) to set the text in the layer, otherwise pixelisation might occur. Text smaller than 8pt will be difficult to print, and knock-out text (text white within a layer of colour) especially needs to be 8 or 10pt at the smallest. Send us a colour mockup of your project so we can see what you’re aiming for. Riso printing is eco friendlier than other printing processes : it doesn’t heat up the inks thus using very little energy to print and producing no fine particle emissions; the inks are made from rice bran oil leftover from rice processing, so there are no micro plastics released from printing. We print on non glossy or recycled paper and use a second hand machine and drums. The riso look is immediately recognisable, with its vibrant, intense colours and beautiful dot textures. Its handmade quality comes with idiosyncrasies. Quand vous nous envoyez votre projet, n’oubliez pas de: Nous envoyer un mockup couleur de votre projet (pour qu’on puisse avoir une idée du résultat désiré après impression)Laisser une marge blanche de 1cm autour de votre image - on ne sait pas imprimer jusqu’au bord de la feuille en riso. Votre fichier sera donc A3: 297 x 420 mm, et la zone couverte par votre image fera maximum 277 x 400 mm. Si votre image contient du texte, pour éviter une pixelisation à l’impression, creez cette couche de couleur sur un logiciel utilisant des vecteurs (comme InDesign par exemple).Eviter les grandes zones d’aplat de couleur à plus de 80% d’opacité (sinon l’encre coule et fait des espèces de ‘mares’ dans l’image qui sèchent bizarrement) Le rendu de la riso et ses couleurs sont intenses et reconnaissables. Son coté artisanal fait que les défauts d’alignements entre différentes couleurs sont inévitables et que chaque impression sera un peu différente de la précédente. C’est ce qui fait le charme de la riso: il y a toujours des surprises! Pensez-y quand vous créerez votre image.Une astuce: Si la préparation des couches/calques n’est pas votre fort, utilisez l’app Spectrolite pour diviser votre image.
